Meltdowns and emotional management: (Spectrum Support, ch 4)

Managing Your Emotions Around Meltdowns;

I used to have meltdowns along with my son almost every time he had one. Now, with practice and time I can stay calm for most of them. And since the writing of this book, even his meltdowns have significantly decreased!

Most people can get away with dwelling in the feeling of acceptance. They don’t know what it’s like to wake up to hours of screaming, or to go on a family walk that turns into a traumatic experience, or how to keep themselves from crossing the line of parental instincts while repressing their own survival instinct.

For those of us who know what that’s like, heightened emotional management is extremely essential. We need to work to live in frequencies of emotion higher than the average person in order to make it through the unconventional pitfalls we face regularly.

See my Happy Tips book for specific strategies on emotional management. There I’ve included my how I apply various strategies for allowing yourself to feel more joy, peace and love; help you to hover around acceptance during hard times rather than straight to despair every time a meltdown hits.

Special needs parents can’t afford to regularly live in acceptance. We require higher living to remain resilient through the extreme experience of autism meltdowns. It is so worth it! We are stronger and happier for all the practice we can get.
